3 frames with the EOS 100…

This is not the cheapest camera I have ever bought, but with a winning bid on eBay of £1.62 for the body, it is not far off! I was looking for a replacement of my EOS 5 whose function dial failed, but put a stupid bid on this one just for the fun of it.

It is no EOS 5, but at that price worth a go. As with most EOS cameras, this one worked perfectly - they are a very reliable machine. Initially I did think the shutter wasn’t working properly as it was so quiet, but it transpired that was one of the marketing features - the quietest EOS ever! It is stacked with functions, released in 1991 as an advanced amateur camera.

Loaded with a roll of Kodak Gold 200, I had a late night airport pick-up so headed into the city centre on the way.

It is funny who you meet in the middle of the night in the city! I got chatting to a guy on his bike about photography and the state of the world - he warned me there are some wrong-uns about and to be careful. My reply was simple - the camera is worth nothing, they can have it, if it came to that!

I shot in Aperture Priority at f8 for ease, and I think they came out really well. Obviously Ektar would be a better choice if this was a serious shoot, but Gold is what I had.

I used the Canon EF 28-80 USM lens for these, as it was the first one that came to hand when trying to find my Tamron 19-35 which I wanted to take, but couldn’t remember where I put it!

When you think how cheap and simple the setup is, the images are pretty good. The tripod was just a cheapy lightweight one, and as there was no wind it was perfectly fine. With the flight on finals, and a twenty minute drive up to the airport, the session concluded.

A few days later the EOS got a walk in daylight, and this image is my favourite from the day. Again on Aperture Priority at f8, the metering and exposure did exactly what I wanted it to.

So my thoughts on the EOS 100… It is so quiet when shooting and winding, you could shoot it anywhere without drawing attention. These EOS’ are quite quiet anyway, but this takes it down a notch. It does everything you want and need without any fuss, and would make a fantastic beginner camera - it’s not very exciting, but does the job.
